Good questions.
Anything else, email hello@thousandisles.co.uk.
Is it really just ube?
Yes. The only ingredient is ube (Dioscorea alata), grown in the Philippines. There’s no carrier, filler, flavouring or colouring in the bag.
How much do I use per drink?
Start with about 5 g (2 teaspoons) per 250 ml of milk. That works out at about 200 lattes per kilo. The mixing guide has starting amounts for soft-serve, pastry and bakes too.
Can you give us calories for our menu?
Yes. The powder has 351 kcal per 100 g, so a 5 g serving adds about 18 kcal before milk and any sweetener. The full nutrition table is on our Explore page.
Will it mix into cold drinks?
It’s a fine 80-mesh powder, so it whisks in well, but like matcha it can clump if it’s tipped straight into a cold glass. Whisk it to a paste with a splash of warm milk or water first, then add cold milk and ice.
Why does the colour change?
Ube’s violet comes from natural pigments that respond to acidity. Alkaline mixes drift bluer and acidic ones pinker, with violet in between. It’s a sign the colour is the yam’s own, and the mixing guide shows how to steer it.
What’s the smallest trade order?
5kg per order, in any mix of 1kg Service Bags and 5kg Trade Sacks. The 1kg bags stay sealed until you need them, so a smaller café isn’t left with an open sack. Not sure yet? Start with a sample pouch.
How is it delivered, and what does it cost?
We dispatch from the UK and your order arrives in about two weeks. Delivery is calculated when you order, by weight and postcode, and orders of 10kg or more ship free.
How do I pay?
Your first order is paid before it’s dispatched. After that, we invoice each order and payment is due within 14 days.
How long does it keep?
24 months in the sealed bag. Once it’s open, reseal it after each use and keep it cool, dry and out of direct light. Use it within 3 months.
What about allergens and dietary needs?
Our supplier declares none of the 14 major allergens present, and it’s suitable for vegetarians and vegans. The spec sheet sets out the full declaration for your allergen records.
Can I see the spec before I order?
Yes. We send the full spec sheet with your sample, including the allergen declaration.
